Many EWHL players in international matches

In Villach Austria will face Hungary, and there will be plenty of EWHL players from both countries in action. Austria’s women’s ice hockey national team has already shifted its focus to the home World Championship in April 2024, with a break in November. They will be testing themselves against Hungary on Friday and Saturday at the Stadthalle Villach, who are considered strong contenders for promotion to the top division.

General Manager Martin Kogler is excited about these upcoming international matches, stating, „It’s a great opportunity for us to play against Hungary.“ The fact that they are playing in Carinthia adds a touch of World Championship atmosphere, as Villach will be their future home base at the Federal Training Center. The last time Austria and Hungary faced each other was on April 13, 2019, during the Division IA World Championship in Budapest, Hungary. The hosts narrowly won 2-1 and secured promotion to the top division, from which they were relegated this year, finishing 9th. Kogler acknowledges the challenge posed by Hungary, a team that has spent several years in the top division and will bring some star players to Villach. He sees this as a good test for their young team, five months before the World Championship, and an opportunity to try out new strategies. The goal is to take the next steps and set the course towards the World Championship with this week’s matches. The austrian team hopes for strong support from the fans for the two test matches on Friday at 7:15 PM and Saturday at 3:30 PM, both of which will be broadcast live on LIVE.eishockey.at. Tickets can be purchased at the door, and season ticket holders of EC IDM Wärmepumpen VSV, as well as children, will receive free admission.
